Local coverage
West London is where the largest share of our work sits. Working out of Harrow, the W and parts of the TW and UB postcodes are a short run for us, which means surveys can usually be fitted around your availability rather than ours, including weekday evenings up to 8pm and Saturday mornings.
The property mix here is very consistent: long Victorian and Edwardian terraces around Ealing, Acton and Hanwell, larger bay-fronted houses in Chiswick and Hammersmith, extensive 1930s semi-detached stock through Greenford and Perivale, and a large number of houses subdivided into flats. Each of those types fails in its own predictable way, and we have replastered enough of them to know where to look first.
A lot of West London housing has also been extended, side returns filled in, rear extensions added, kitchens and bathrooms moved. Those junctions between old solid wall and new construction are where a great deal of penetrating damp and condensation starts, and they are frequently misread as rising damp.
Work is carried out with the neighbours in mind, because on a West London terraced street there is rarely much room. We agree parking, access and material deliveries before starting.
Victorian and Edwardian terraces, bay-fronted villas, 1930s semis, side-return and rear extensions, and flat conversions.
Rising damp in solid ground-floor walls, damp chimney breasts, and penetrating damp on flank walls and around extension junctions.
Calls Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm and Saturday 8am to 1pm, with evening survey slots for people who work full time.
Services in West London

A failed damp proof course is diagnosed, treated with an accredited Sovereign or Wykamol system and replastered to a decoration-ready finish, priced as a fixed sum before any work starts, and guaranteed for ten years.
Rising damp treatment in West London
Damp that worsens after rain is coming in from somewhere. We find the route: pointing, render, sills, gutters or roof detail; correct it, then repair the wall inside. Free survey, fixed price, no guesswork.
Penetrating damp treatment in West London
Find out exactly what is causing the damp, what it takes to fix it, and what it costs, in writing, at a fixed price, with no charge for the visit and no obligation to proceed.
Damp surveys & diagnosis in West London
Below-ground rooms need a waterproofing system, not a coat of damp-seal paint. Membrane and cementitious tanking specified to suit the structure, installed as an approved Sovereign and Wykamol contractor, with a free survey and a fixed price.
Structural waterproofing & tanking in West London
The replaster is half of any damp repair. We remove contaminated plaster, apply the specified salt-retardant system and leave a flat, decoration-ready finish, as part of a fixed price, by the same contractor that treated the wall.
Plastering in West London
Cracked, hollow or blown render holds water against your masonry. We identify why it failed, repair or renew it with a system suited to the substrate, and fix the damp it was causing inside.
Rendering in West London
Open joints and spalled brick faces are the most common route for penetrating damp. We cut out properly, repoint in a mortar matched to your brick, and replace masonry that has broken down.
Brickworks & repointing in West London
Helical stainless bars bonded into the bed joints tie cracked brickwork back into one structure, a repair carried out from the outside, without rebuilding the wall, and finished so the crack disappears.
Brick stitching in West London
Damp repairs rarely stop at the damp. We carry out the associated building work: masonry, render, plaster, joinery repairs and making good, so the job finishes with one contractor accountable for all of it.
General building in West London
Treatment stops the damp; remedial work makes the room liveable again. Plaster, joinery, floors, decoration preparation and making good, completed by the contractor that did the specialist work, at a fixed price.
Small refurbishment & remedial works in West LondonWhy choose us
Solid nine-inch walls, soft London stock brick and 1930s cavity semis all behave differently. We specify for the wall in front of us, not a template.
If the problem is condensation or a blocked gutter rather than rising damp, we say so. Selling an unnecessary injected DPC is not a business model that survives a ten-year guarantee.
A 10-year company workmanship guarantee and a separate 10-year QANW insurance-backed guarantee on damp treatment, both documented.
Accredited systems installed to the manufacturer's specification, which is what makes the insurance-backed guarantee possible.
Repointing, rendering, brick stitching, plastering and making good in-house, so an extension junction or a failed render is fixed as part of the same job.
Written fixed price for a defined scope, 50% deposit and 50% on completion by bank transfer. No day rates, no open-ended bills.
Local damp problems
West London's damp is mostly a product of age and alteration. Much of the housing predates cavity walls, so there is no air gap to interrupt moisture, and the original slate or bitumen damp proof courses are now well past their design life.
On top of that, decades of extending and remodelling have added new floor levels, new wet rooms and new abutments to old walls. Combine that with hard driven rain on unprotected flank elevations and ground levels raised by patios and paving, and the pattern of problems becomes very predictable.
Tide marks at a consistent height, blown plaster and salting on front and party walls in Victorian and Edwardian terraces.
Rear patios and side paths laid above the damp proof course bridge it completely, so an otherwise sound DPC stops working.
Side-return and rear extensions create junctions, flashings and low-level flat roofs where water finds its way into the original wall.
Hard cement render and repointing on soft London stock brick traps moisture and cracks, pushing damp inwards and spalling the brick face.
Redundant and capped stacks with failed flashings or no ventilation produce salt-stained, damp breasts in bedrooms and living rooms.
Subdivided houses and new en-suites with sealed windows and weak extraction produce black mould that is routinely misdiagnosed as rising damp.

In detail
The classic West London job is a ground-floor wall in a terrace showing a tide mark roughly 600mm to a metre up, with hollow plaster and white salt bloom. Where the survey confirms a failed or missing damp proof course, we inject a new chemical DPC into the mortar bed using a Sovereign or Wykamol system, then remove the contaminated plaster back to masonry and replace it with a salt-retardant render and skim.
Skipping the replaster is the single most common reason a damp proofing job fails. The old plaster holds hygroscopic salts that pull moisture from the air indefinitely, so the wall keeps looking damp even after the DPC works perfectly.
We check for bridging before recommending injection. If a patio, path or render coat is carrying moisture past the DPC, the cheaper and more honest answer is to correct that first.
Damp that tracks the weather is water crossing the wall. On West London properties the usual culprits are eroded lime mortar joints, cracked or debonded cement render, defective sills without drip details, perished sealant at window frames, and gutters or downpipes discharging onto one narrow strip of wall.
End-of-terrace flank walls are the worst affected because they take the full force of south-westerly driven rain with nothing in front of them. Repointing in an appropriate mortar, replacing spalled bricks, repairing render properly and applying a breathable water-repellent treatment where suitable is the durable route.
Where cracking has opened a path for water, often at bay junctions or over openings, helical brick stitching restores the masonry rather than simply filling the crack.
Plenty of West London houses have a cellar or a vaulted space under the front bay, and most were never intended to stay dry enough for habitable use. Turning one into a utility room, gym or study means a proper structural waterproofing design: cementitious tanking bonded to sound masonry, or a cavity drain membrane with perimeter drainage, a sump and a pump where gravity discharge is not available.
We detail junctions, service penetrations and the floor-to-wall return carefully, because that is where basement waterproofing leaks. Waterproof paint is not a solution, it cannot resist water arriving under pressure.
Damp is one of the most common items flagged in West London homebuyer surveys, and it stalls sales while buyers, lenders and vendors argue about cost. A free survey gives you the actual cause and a written fixed price, which is usually enough to restart the conversation.
Where we carry out the treatment, the 10-year workmanship guarantee and the 10-year QANW insurance-backed guarantee provide the paperwork a buyer's solicitor or surveyor will ask for. Building works carry a 6-month workmanship guarantee.
From West London we also cover the wider capital, Middlesex, Brent, Watford, Slough, Buckinghamshire, High Wycombe and Surrey, so a property near a boundary is never a problem.
If a sale, remortgage or tenancy start date depends on the report, say so when you call and we will tell you honestly whether the timescale works.
